Delight First
Psalm 37:4
Delight yourself in the lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
I believe that the particular order of this sentence is important. Delight first, the He gives us our desires.
We can so easily discount God when we don’t get our own fleshly desires and think that He is not a God of his word. But read it again. Delight first.
Delighting yourself in God is so much more than saying “thank you God” before you ask him for what you want. It’s being willing to sacrifice anything for Him. It’s completely trusting His will. It’s seeking His heart.
I believe what this verse is saying is that when we delight in God, when we fall deep in love with Him, when He is our number 1 priority and we are so consumed with Him, then His desires become our desires.
By falling in love with God we are given the opportunity to align ourselves with His desires. We are given the opportunity to be led by the God of this universe to make an impact. We are invited to come outside of ourselves and we are invited to change lives and expand the Kingdom of Heaven.
Following Jesus and falling in love with our Heavenly Father is so much bigger than just getting what we think we want and life being good. And if that’s why you choose to follow Him I have a spoiler alert: being a Christian is hard.
Delighting in Jesus comes with being the hands and feet of Jesus. Delighting in Jesus means trusting in Him even when life is hard. Delighting in Jesus means trusting that He knows best. Delighting in Jesus means desiring what He desires.
